Due to a requirement for extended support for SQL Server Caerbont Automotive turned to us to find a way to keep their systems working beyond Microsoft's usual end of support.
Typically to extend support on an end of life product from Microsoft you will need a volume license with an expensive software assurance contract to then be able to buy extended support. This can be incredibly costly, so in addition to providing the traditional solution as an option we also highlighted an alternative in the form of extended licensing available within Microsoft Azure.
As our customer was already paying for a private cloud offering via a different provider the option to move to Azure not only solved the issues they were facing but offered better performance and more features, all whilst providing a cost saving.
With the decision to proceed with the Azure option made one of our senior infrastructure engineers, Barry Mansell, was allocated to the project.
